近日，河北大学张锋教授带领的蛛形动物研究团队在广东中山国家森林公园马踢水景区发现一种蛛形纲新物种，经鉴定是全球新物种并命名为中山巨盾蝎（Megaschizomus zhongshanensis）。该研究成果以论文《First record of the subfamily Megaschizominae Rowland, 1973 from China, with description of a new species of Megaschizomus Lawrence, 1969 (Schizomida:Hubbardiidae)》在国际动物分类期刊Zootaxa发表。
本次发现的中山巨盾蝎隶属于蛛形纲（Arachnida）裂盾目（Schizomida）哈氏盾蝎科（Hubbardiidae）巨盾蝎亚科（Megaschizominae）。该物种雄性体长7.24mm，雌性体长7.21mm，体长明显大于我国已知的其他物种。该种以中山市命名，模式产地为广东省中山市中山国家森林公园，1件雄性正模和1件雌性副模标本部保存在河北大学博物馆（MHBU）。
此前，巨盾蝎亚科全世界已知仅2种，全部分布在非洲。本次发现为巨盾蝎亚科在我国的首次发现，将该亚科的物种数量增加至3种，也将该亚科的野生分布从非洲拓展至亚洲。
